Mining Tragedy Connects Us to Tragedies of the Past

Thursday January 5, 2006
The mining tragedy in West Virginia brought home a relevant point to me. It's very easy to look at the labor tragedies of the past like the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire and other mining accidents and think that those could not happen in today's world. However, there are still some very dangerous jobs. This connection to the past underscores the need for continuing labor reform. While no job can be made 100% safe, we need to continually look at the safety procedures provided by companies to ensure that workers are as protected as possible.
