The American economy has been front and center in the news this week. With the business and bank failures and government bailouts, people across America are rightly concerned about the future. Some have even raised the thought that we might be entering a second Great Depression. When Franklin D. Roosevelt came into office in 1933, he set into motion a combination of programs that collectively were called the New Deal. Some of these programs like the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) were created to provide immediate individual relief. Others such as Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) were developed to provide long term economic relief to an entire region. Today, some lawmakers are calling for new programs such as an FHA Housing Security Program to help with the current crisis. Only time will tell the depths of the recession we are currently experiencing in America.
