Memorial Day History

Monday May 25, 2009
We celebrate Memorial Day on the last Monday in May. This holiday was originally called Decoration Day due to the practice of decorating graves of soldiers. It is a day of remembrance for those who have died serving America. Traditionally, many families gather and enjoy the outdoors with picnics and cookouts. While having fun with our families we should still remember the sacrifices that have made this freedom possible.

I feel the country needs to get back to real and true meaning of Memorial Day. While the picnics and cook outs are great, we are supposed to be remembering all those who have served our country and are currently wearing the uniform. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of our service people and their families, for they serve, too. MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

What a lot of people do not know is that Memorial Day actually started after the American Civil War in about 1870. It was started to remember the dead and vetrans of the Civil War

Although memorial day is meant to honor those who have served, serv and died during service, we should remember to say thank you everyday. Next time you see a soldier, tell them that you appreciate their service. Check out WoundedWarriorProject.org.

I so appreciate those that serve our country because without them our freedom would be obsolete. God Bless my family members who have served and God bless the other family members who have given up their freedom so that we may have it.
