William Penn Signs Treaty

On June 23, 1683, William Penn signed a treaty with the chiefs of the Lenni Lenape tribe to guarantee the peace between the two groups. The area of land they where sharing was given to Penn by King Charles II. Penn later named this land Pennsylvania, after his father.

Kind of gives invasion a new meaning don’t you think? Take the land and pray for peace with those whose land it was.
Actually, Penn and the Quakers who settled there were known for their, relatively, fair treatment of the Indians. They often bought the land from the tribes inhabiting them.
