Declaration of Independence is Accepted
Saturday July 4, 2009
On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress accepted the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson. The declaration was a result of the War of Independence which had started over a year before it was written. Later, the document was sent to King George III to show the formal severing of colonial links with Britain. Happy Independence Day!

Chronologically, the war came first, not the Declaration. Therefore, the Declaration was indeed a result of the war – and not the other way around. The war really started over a year before the Declaration was ever written.
Dirk, That is what he said. Read it again. You said the exact same thing.
Good summary. A lot of people get it wrong and say things like it was signed on the 4th. It took months to collect all those signatures!
Dirk needs a little lesson in reading comprehension, I’d say!
They say that the WW II era was the greatest generation ever! Since it was my parents generation, I find it very difficult to disagree.
However, the signing of the Declaration of Independence by Congress at a time when the colonials had not even won a battle in the War for Independence, was truly an act of tremendous courage. These leaders not only risked everything they possessed, but if we were to lose the war, they most certainly would have been hung as traitors.
I wonder what they would think our leaders today!?
What would our founding Fathers think of our leaders? Lets see, Is there any thing in this country not taxed? I would call them a Den of theives.
