1676 - Nathaniel Bacon released from arrest after admitting his guilt. He is then pardoned by the Virginia Governor Berkley.
1933 - US goes off gold standard.
1947 - Secretary of State George C. Marshall outlines "The Marshall Plan".
1968 - Robert Kennedy is shot by Sirhan Sirhan in Los Angelas, California at the Ambassador Hotel. He dies the next day.
