Question: What role did Adams play in Washington's leadership of the Continental Army?
Answer: Adams was instrumental in the appointment of George Washington as the leader of the newly formed Continental Army. He believed that the struggle for independence needed to be expanded beyond the borders of Massachusetts. Therefore, he nominated Washington, an experienced and well-liked Virginian, to head the Continental Army stationed outside of Boston. This action helped to solidify the support of another large colony, Virginia, in the cause for independence.
