George Washington was the first president of the United States. He was America's only unanimously elected president. However, his career began as a soldier fighting for the British in the French and Indian War. He would go on to lead the Continental Army during the American Revolution. When it was time to decide on a leader for the newly created United States, Washington was the obvious choice. Many decisions that Washington made while president set precedents that are still followed today.
