Who was the first African-American Supreme Court Justice?

Question: Who was the first African-American Supreme Court Justice?
Answer: Thurgood Marshall became the first African-American justice when he was appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson and confirmed by the Senate in 1967. Marshall had helped fight for the reversal of the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision. He was US Solicitor General when Johnson appointed him to the Supreme Court. He retired in 1991. He passed away in 1993.
