1676 - Nathaniel Bacon was arrested as a traitor in the Virginia Colony.

1774 - The Virginia House of Burgesses was dissolved leading up to the American Revolution.

1836 - The House of Representatives passed the "gag rule" tabling all issues of slavery during the session. This would continue until 1844.

1868 - Andrew Johnson was acquitted of all charges of impeachment.

1938 - The House Un-Amerian Activities committee was created under Martin Dies.

1952 - The Bonn Peace Treaty was signed by the United States, France, Britain and West Germany.
