1813 - Lieutenant Colonel Winfield Scott captured Fort George forcing the British to withdraw from Lake Erie during the War of 1812.

1929 - The "pocket veto" was ruled constitutional by the Supreme Court.

1933 - Congress passed the Federal Securities Act.

1935 - The National Industrial Recovery Act of 1933 was declared unconstitutional leading to Franklin Roosevelt's 'court-packing' proposal of 1937.

1943 - Franklin Roosevelt created the Office of War Mobilization to coordinate war efforts for World War II.

1818 - Amelia Jenks Bloomer, suffragette
