1790 - The first Copyright Act was signed by President George Washington.

1862 - The Battle of Seven Pines began near Richmond.

1870 - The Ku Klux Klan Act of 1870 was passed by Congress.

1913 - The 17th Amendment was passed.

1921 - Naval oil reserves at Elk Hills, California and Teapot Dome, Wyoming were transferred to the Department of the Interior later leading to the Teapot Dome Scandal.

1957 - Arthur Miller was convicted of contempt of Congress because he refused to name Communist writers.
