1534 - Jacques Cartier was the first to sail into mouth of the St. Lawrence River.

1768 - A Boston customs official was locked up in John Hancock's sloop the Liberty while an illegal importation was taking place in Boston Harbor.

1863 - The Battle of Brandy Station occurred during the civil war.

1934 - Donald Duck debuted.

1973 - Secretariat won the Triple Crown.
