Which President Issued the Least Presidential Vetoes?

By Martin Kelly, About.com

Question: Which President Issued the Least Presidential Vetoes?
Answer: Presidential vetoes are one of the main tools that presidents are given by the US Constitution to check the legislative branch. While some presidents like Franklin Roosevelt and Grover Cleveland fully utilized the power of the presidential veto issuing 635 and 584 vetoes respectively, seven presidents (not including Barack Obama) never issued even one veto. These were: James Monroe and Martin Van Buren each only vetoed one bill. Our first president, George Washington, only issued two. It is interesting to note that except for James Garfield, all the other presidents listed here were pre-civil war presidents. Further, Garfield was only president for six months before he was assassinated.
