By , About.com Guide

Question: Who was Deep Throat in the Watergate Scandal?
Answer: On May 31, 2005, the undercover source that helped Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein uncover what was happening in the coverup of the Watergate break-in finally revealed his identity. Former FBI Agent, W. Mark Felt at the age of 91 let it be known through a Vanity Fair magazine article that he was indeed 'Deep Throat'. Apparently, he felt that the FBI was giving the White House too much information while at the same time investigating the claims of wrongdoing. Therefore, he leaked information to the reporters to lead them to the story that rocked the political world and led to Nixon's resignation.
